What is the Joomla! Release Cycle?

The six monthly Joomla! Release Cycle was introduced by The Joomla! Project back in 2014.

Reason: to make development of the Content Management System (or CMS) more responsive to wider technological advancements.

And to ensure the Joomla! CMS continues to offer a solid stable platform that users can be confident in and rely upon.

In 2022, The Joomla! Project announced that it had decided to continue its policy of issuing a new minor release every six months and a major new version every two years.

"Having fixed months which are reliable helps everyone plan."

The months of release will in future be April and October in order to avoid the summer holidays in both the northern and southern hemispheres.
