Website Design for St Margaret's CE Primary School
Warrington, Cheshire
The school accepted our offer to redevelop their old Joomla! CMS website several years ago when they subscribed to WYNCHCO Joomla! CMS Support.
They wanted to continue using the Joomla! CMS whilst making their website more accessible and mobile friendly.
Their website uses a customised version of our unique WYNCHCO Template.
This case study outlines our approach to creating a website design to meet the school's needs.

Stage 2: Template and Website Design
This is when we make the Joomla! CMS work for you and your organisation.
First we install the latest available version of the Joomla! CMS on our development server (with visibility restricted to you and us).
Next we configure its Content (categories articles and modules) and Navigation (menus and menu links) to meet your needs.
We then populate its Content with the initial text, images and any other other media you provide, ensuring compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. This is a legal requirement for public sector bodies in the UK.
Then we customise our unique WYNCHCO Template to ensure that your website reflects your brand.
Throughout this process we will ask you to review and comment on the changes we make.
Stage 3: Review and Publication
When you are ready to publish your website, we install it for you on the web server of your choice.
We then continue to provide WYNCHCO Joomla! CMS Support for the remainder of the agreed subscription period, regardless of where your website is hosted.

Customisation
Here are some of the changes we made to customise our unique WYNCHCO Template and the 'out of the box' Joomla! CMS meet the school's requirements.
Brand
The school wanted a Site Banner to be displayed on the left side at the top of their website in Landscape View.
And the Site Banner to be displayed at the top in Portrait View.
The school could have instead chosen to display a Site Title in Portrait View on small screen devices.
And they still can, if they toggle the relevant button in the Template Styles screen of their website's control panel.
They might also choose to display a Strapline.
As requested we linked the website's Brand to the Home Page, but the school can easily change this whenever they wish.
For example, link the Site Banner or Site Title to the Contact Us page.
The school followed our recommendation to display a Copyright Statement at the bottom of their website.
The Copyright Statement date can be changed via the Template Styles screen.
Display Format
The school initially opted for a Fixed Width website display.
Their website was displayed in the centre of large screens whilst filling the entire width of small screens.
They subsequently changed their mind, choosing instead a Full Width display, meaning their website fills the screen width on all screen sizes.
Fonts
WYNCHCO website designs include a number of self-hosted Google Font Family Style Sets.
More can be added upon request, and you can even add your own, choosing from more than 800 fonts listed in the Google Fonts Directory.
The school liked the Lato sans-serif font.
Images
WYNCHCO website designs include Image Style Sets to enable you to quickly style any one image when editing an Article.
For example, you might want to display a colour image in greyscale or sepia, or display it as a polaroid photograph, or change the rounding of its corners.
But we also make it possible for you to change Corner Roundings globally (i.e. for ALL images in your website).
How? By toggling a button in the Template Styles screen of the website's control panel.
The school chose to initially display all images in their website with rounded corners.
Screen
The school opted for their website to be displayed in browsers against a white background.
They could have instead chosen a gradient background, a repeating pattern background or one large image background.
They still can whenever they wish.
It is easy to change the screen background image or colour.
Text Size
The school opted not to change the default Text Size and Letter Spacing.
They can adjust this setting any time they wish, simply by toggling a few buttons in the Template Styles screen of their website's control panel.
For example, increase the Text Size.
Cookie Bar
The school asked us to install and configure a Cookie Bar Module for use with their website.
Reason: to comply with UK General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
Google Translator
The school asked us to install and configure a Google Translator module for display at the bottom of their website.
Slideshow
The school asked us to install and configure a Slideshow Module to display images at the top of the Home Page.
