Reassuring words from our hosting provider

The BBC posted an article yesterday stating a serious Amazon Web Services outage had been 'resolved' as Snapchat and banks were among sites adversely impacted for several hours during the day.

Quote: "Amazon ... said ... the issue "appears to be related to DNS resolution of the DynamoDB API endpoint in US-EAST-1"."

A contributor to the business section of the BBC Radio 4 Today programme this morning reported that Amazon, along with Microsoft and Google provide 70% of global cloud computing.

This prompted me to question which cloud services are used by our own company's supplier of web hosting and domain registrar services: Krystal Hosting.

The UK Government recently announced that it intends to mandate a Digital ID for all adult UK citizens, without which they will not be able to work.

This is almost already the case for UK business owners.

Try opening a business bank account without a Biometric Face Match.

Should AI surveillance be banned?

If you have tried interacting with a chatbot then what Gabriel Weinberg, founder of DuckDuckGo (our go to search engine) writes in his latest blog post will ring true.

He states "All the same privacy harms with online tracking are also present with AI, but worse.

Longer input invites more personal information to be provided, and people are starting to bare their souls to chatbots.

The conversational format can make it feel like you’re talking to a friend, a professional, or even a therapist.

While search queries reveal interests and personal problems, AI conversations take their specificity to another level and, in addition, reveal thought processes and communication styles, creating a much more comprehensive profile of your personality."

Gabriel cites several serious breaches by chatbots of Personal Data to underscore his concern:

How often do you check the End of Life status of your phone and its operating system?

How often do you check the End of Life status of your phone and its operating system?

If you are like me then not very often.

But not any more because I have just received a wake up call whilst searching for a fix for my old smartphone.

With no quick fix on the horizon I decided to replace it.

Whereupon my use of a really useful phone spec comparison website indicated that not only my phone but also its operating system had recently reached End of Life.

Meaning: no more security updates for either!
